Restoration (Latin: restitution) is the return to a pre-existing condition of anything lost, such as a person. Possession, or state of being it to describe the return to the state of something after it had been lost.  as in "restore the balance to a scale" or "restore the stability to a financial system" The phrase in the sense of "restore the monarchy". to mean the restoration of the monarchy to the throne, i.e. the return to absolute rule of a single monarch. in the United Kingdom, although the term was not used in this sense in the 19th century. "Restoration" is also used in the sense of "renew"

From 1536 to 1540, King Henry VIII reigned supreme over England. He died in 1547 and was replaced by his son Edward. After Edward’s death in 1553, the next King was Henry’s brother, Edward. As King of England, Henry VIII introduced the Protestant Reformation in England.

The restoration was a period when England was returning to its Christian roots after the civil war and puritanism. A rebellion and a civil war ensued and Charles I was executed. #

The Restoration came to be defined as the reestablishment of the monarchy in place of the Commonwealth. Following the English Civil War. The Restoration, but, had its origins in much earlier events.

In 1536, after the death of Henry VIII, the power was contested by two royal heirs. Edward VI was the eldest but he died in 1553, leaving the throne to his sister Mary, who succeeded him. Mary was proclaimed queen, but in 1558, she was placed under house arrest and replaced by her cousin, Elizabeth.
